Insurers earned more than 42 billion rubles from voluntary health insurance. And this is only for the third quarter of 2023. According to the Central Bank, this is 18% more than a year earlier. But Superjob estimates that only 17% of companies buy health insurance. And all because almost half of the staff does not use it.

Businesses noticed this and optimized costs for voluntary health insurance, says Natalya Kasperskaya, president of the InfoWatch group of companies: “We conducted a survey and looked at what was in demand and what was not. Accordingly, after this we carried out optimization and balanced. Why do we take voluntary health insurance? Because this is important for employees, and yet there is a struggle for the employee. It is important for us to motivate employees not only financially.”

Companies do not disclose budgets for voluntary health insurance, but, according to insurers, businesses more often choose basic options, without dentistry and outpatient care, for example. And often they compensate only part of the expenses, says Finn Flare CEO Ksenia Ryasova: “Many companies provide voluntary health insurance, and few people use it. Therefore, we offer employees to sign up for voluntary health insurance with our discount, some small subsidy, and the employee pays for voluntary health insurance himself. About 20% of workers, mostly older ones, choose a voluntary health insurance policy.”

In such cases, employees choose voluntary health insurance with a franchise, Kommersant FM was told by the All-Russian Union of Insurers. This option stimulates a reduction in unfounded visits to medical institutions. And we must not forget that the VHI policy only works in emergency cases, reminds Armen Gyulumyan, a representative of the insurance broker Remind: “VHI works for a sudden illness, for some kind of exacerbation. The desire to be examined is not an insured event, so check-up programs are essentially separate programs. As for the price, the range is huge – from 15 thousand rubles. up to 200 thousand rubles. and higher. But if we consider some middle segment – 80-100 thousand rubles. per employee. This is the average price that a company pays for fairly high-quality programs.”

100 thousand rubles. It is not easy for a business to allocate funds for each employee. And there is also medical inflation – it’s somewhere around 10-12% per annum. So now a full-fledged VHI policy is a kind of bonus, emphasizes the co-founder of Mr. Doors Maxim Valetsky: “We have never paid voluntary health insurance to all employees, only to valuable personnel and top managers. Most people don’t use it at all. In fact, public health care is now quite normal in many places. If something is serious, we pay the person extra.”

Businesses take a selective approach to staff health insurance. And sometimes he uses the services of subsidiaries, such as in the Elkat company, says its CEO Maxim Tretyakov: “Within our group of companies there is a medical center.

Factory employees simply come there as needed. We pay the bills for this medical center. On average 50 thousand rubles, but for management the amount is about 100 thousand rubles. I’m not trying to motivate people, choose and master this money. Moreover, if there is an employee who has problems involving large sums, I calmly pay these bills.”

Through voluntary health insurance, companies are trying to gain or maintain staff loyalty, recruiters say. Only when employees are hired, especially young people, they are not at all interested in insurance policies in social packages. Everyone wants money instead of insurance.
