INTERVIEW – The host keeps his Sunday show but returns to France 3, at 1:30 p.m. this Sunday.

Can’t wait for Sunday ” welcomes its first guests on its famous red sofa on September 20, 1998 on France 2. At the dawn of a 25th season, it is on another channel that Michael Drucker gives us an appointment: France 3. For the occasion, he inaugurates a new version of his talk show. The first part of the show will be devoted to a common thread guest who will discuss his career, his projects, but also his region of origin. The talk will pay tribute, once a month, to a deceased artist (Bourville, John Gabin, Claude Brewer, George Moustaki, Serge Reggiani…). This season, “Vivement dimanche” also welcomes a new magician: David Jarre, who will alternate with the mentalist Viktor Vincent. Finally, a selection of books will be offered twice a month by Nathan Devers, writer and literary columnist. Question humor, we will find the regulars – Anne Roumanoff, Mathieu Madenian, Olivier de Benoist, Willy Rovelli – as well as young talents of laughter. Following the first filming of “Vivement dimanche”, Michel Drucker comments on this return to school.

TV MAGAZINE. – It’s 25e return of “Vivement dimanche” but the premiere on France 3. How do you approach it?

Michael Drucker. – I am very happy because I am not a Parisian at all, I am a man from the provinces. The France of France 3 is a bit like mine. I didn’t hesitate at all when Stéphane Sitbon-Gomez (director of antennas and programs at France Télévisions) asked me to join this channel, especially at 1:30 p.m., a time that I know well, that’s the time where France is at the table. Sunday lunch, in deep France, there are grandparents, children… It’s all generations combined. So I’m very happy with this schedule. Then being on France 3 is also good because in October I resume my show, “From you to me”, in Paris, at Petit Marigny, and it is sponsored by France Bleu, which is the twin sister of 3.

What about the new version of your show?

There will be the guests that people like and who have been there for a very long time. There will be a tribute to the great disappeared every month, but each time mentioned by someone extremely legitimate. I am going to discover new talents because that has always been the creed of “Vivement dimanche”. Then there is a new magician, David Jarre. I will make sure that the artists talk more about their region. Most of the personalities all have a memory in the provinces, and it is her in priority who looks at us.

The public is finally back at Studio Gabriel…

Yes. No spectators for a year and a half, it was complicated. I didn’t want an audience with masks or with plexiglass on each side. So there, it’s a real audience, it’s very important for artists, especially for comedians.

For you too, right?

Now that I’m performing, I really need it. I am very happy. After what I went through in terms of my health two years ago, that I return to this rate and that I perform on stage, it’s miraculous.

“Everything that happens to me is a gift of life”

Michael Drucker

You will celebrate your 80th birthday on September 12. Do you consider it a gift to be able to continue to practice your profession?

Oh yes ! It is a gift of life. Already, it is a gift that I am in good health, which proves that I had a strong mind and a good surgeon. But obviously, when you turn a passion into a job, you don’t want it to stop. I have always been passionate about this job, passionate about people. I have a fairly privileged and strong relationship with almost two to three generations of French people, because I will be 80 years old soon but next year, it will also be 60 years of career. 60 years old, can you imagine? It’s so unheard of. Then I started the scene at 75 years old. Everything that happens to me is a gift of life.

What is your next challenge?

To be there for the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024. I was asked to find an idea to be part of the team because I am the only survivor of the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo. I never imagined it would take me this far. So thank you TV, thank you audience. I must also say thank you, and this is not sycophancy on my part, to Delphine Ernotte (President of France Télévisions, Ed.) and Stéphane Sitbon-Gomez who came to see me at the hospital. They encouraged me when I was at the bottom of the hole. They told me : ” we will wait for you “. I took advantage of this year when there was the health crisis to treat and heal myself. They waited for me, they were very faithful. And it’s not easy to be faithful to someone who will be 80 years old and 60 years old in television. They told me that I was the memory of this profession, that I was a bit like the DNA of the house. In fact, it’s my least stressful back to school.

Why ?

Because if it stopped there, now, it’s already extraordinary what I experienced. This job has filled my life. He brought me my greatest happiness. A lot of stress too, but it’s the job that wants that. I’m very happy and I feel that I’m going to be very good on the 3.
