VTB (MOEX: VTBR) in 2024 plans to expand the network of branches to 180 new offices, 120 of which will be of a simplified format with an area of no more than 50 square meters. m. (“light” offices), said Vasily Palatkin, senior vice president of the bank, head of the departments of retail sales and development of service tools. By 2026, the bank intends to increase the network of branches across the country by 40%, to 1.8 thousand points.
“The most obvious trend in the banking market this year will be the transition to simplified formats, we call them ‘light’ offices. This year we will have about 180 new branches, of which 120 points will be presented in the new “light” form. The transition to them will allow the bank to reduce the cost of opening one point and quickly adapt financial products for the population of small cities – to make our offices more accessible and close,” Mr. Palatkin said during the VTB Strategic Week.
Since the summer of 2023, VTB has opened seven “light” offices in a test format in three regions – Ivanovo, Sverdlovsk and Kemerovo. Offices are located in shopping centers or locations with major municipal organizations. “Light” points do not differ from standard ones in functionality.
In 2024, VTB also plans to open bank offices in Ingushetia, Kalmykia, Karachay-Cherkessia and Tuva. To improve banking services, offices will be opened not only in large cities, but also in settlements with a population of 20 thousand or more. In 2024, VTB will also unite more than 250 points under a single brand as part of integration with Otkritie.
According to a Kommersant survey, in 2023 a number of large Russian banks increased the number of offices, despite the trend of transferring services to online channels. In 2024, banks promise to continue expanding their branch networks. At the same time, banks often abandon traditional office formats in favor of smaller areas for self-sufficiency, which is enough to issue only one loan per day.
