VTB predicts a twofold increase in cargo transportation along key transport corridors over 10 years

The volume of cargo transportation in the Russian Federation along key transport corridors will almost double in 10 years, VTB predicts. We are talking, among other things, about the “Eastern”, “Azov-Black Sea” and “North-South” corridors. Vitaly Sergeychuk, head of the corporate and investment business unit, spoke about the forecast on the sidelines of the VTB forum “Russia Calling!”
As the expert noted, in 2019, the North-West corridor accounted for about 40% of cargo transportation. The situation was “significantly changed” by the reorientation of trade flows towards Asia. “North-West” lost its leading position. “The Eastern corridor has become a priority. Its capacity is 170 million tons, but this is not enough to meet current needs and now there is a discussion about expanding its capacity to 255 million tons by 2032,” Mr. Sergeychuk told reporters.
According to VTB’s forecast, the growth in cargo transportation along the Azov-Black Sea transport corridor will occur due to the emergence of new ports in the south of Russia. The bank expects capacity to increase from 200 to 300 million tons. In addition, VTB sees “significant prospects” for the new North-South corridor in connection with the development of trade and economic relations of the Russian Federation with Iran, India and the Middle East.
