Volga-Dnepr offered Canada to settle the dispute over the arrested An-124

Russia’s largest cargo airline, Volga-Dnepr, has offered the Canadian authorities to peacefully resolve the dispute over the An-124-100 arrested in February 2022. The company sent an official notice to the Canadian side, the company’s press service said.
“Volga-Dnepr has sent an official notice informing Canada of the existence of a dispute between the company and the country in connection with the illegal seizure of the An-124-100 cargo aircraft, and also invites the country’s authorities to resolve the dispute amicably in accordance with Article 9 of the agreement between USSR and Canada on the encouragement and mutual protection of investments dated November 20, 1989, message companies.
The company added that if the dispute is not resolved within six months from the date of receipt of the notice by the Canadian government, the airline will initiate arbitration proceedings.
In February 2022, An-124-10 brought COVID-19 test kits from China to Canada. The flight was operated at the request of the Government of Canada. The plane was banned from leaving Canada after unloading, as by that time Russian airlines had been banned from using the country’s airspace.
In April 2023, Canada added Volga-Dnepr and its head Alexei Isaikin to the sanctions list. In June, the Government of Canada ordered arrest the An-124 of the company and start its confiscation in the interests of Ukraine.
