Vodka production in Russia fell by 5.7%, cognac – by 4.9% – Kommersant

Vodka production in Russia in the ten months of 2023 decreased by 5.7% compared to the same period in 2022, to 63.2 million decaliters, Rosalkogoltabakcontrol reported. Cognac production fell by 4.9%, to 6.8 million decaliters. At the same time, the production of low-alcohol products increased by 16.4%, to 17.8 million decaliters.

According to the department, for 10 months this year:

• Alcohol production in Russia as a whole (excluding beer, beer drinks, cider, poire and mead) decreased by 4.3%, to 151.95 million decaliters;
• Alcoholic drinks with a strength of more than 9% were produced by 4.1% less – to 87.9 million decaliters;
• Liquor and vodka products with a strength of more than 25% produced 1.2% less, to 10.96 million decaliters.
• Grape wines – less by 8.2%, to 24.8 million decaliters;
• Sparkling wines – 8.1% less, to 10.8 million decaliters;
• Liqueur wines – less by 19.7%, to 684 thousand decaliters;

Comparing the results of October 2022 and 2023, the department notes that alcohol production (excluding beer, cider, poiret and mead) fell year-on-year by 4.8% to 19.9 million decaliters.

As Rosalkogoltabakcontrol explains, the alcohol market, after “multidirectional trends” in 2022, is now stabilizing and returning to 2021 levels. Last year, alcohol production was high due to reduced exports and import substitution. Since the impact of external factors on the industry was very strong, experts from Rosalkogoltabakkontrol consider it not entirely correct to compare indicators with last year’s.
