Vladimir Putin presented awards to cultural figures

According to the tradition that has developed over the past 14 years, Cultural Worker’s Day is celebrated with the presentation of presidential awards. This year, life made its own adjustments: due to national mourning for those killed in the terrorist attack in Crocus, the ceremony was postponed by a day. As a result, the best of the best received awards from the hands of Vladimir Putin on the evening of March 26.
“In difficult periods, the importance of culture and spiritual values increases even more. It is extremely important for us now, when we deeply experience what happened last Friday, to rely on the values of creativity, humanism and mercy,” the president said, addressing those gathered in the Catherine Hall of the Kremlin. “Your word, your opinion and creativity directly influence people’s mood, strengthening their patriotic feelings, you make a contribution of the highest standard to the education and development of the younger generation, and shape the future.”
Three people received the prize for young cultural figures. Mengi Ondar, deputy director of the K.B. Ondar Center for the Development of Tuvan Traditional Culture and Crafts, received an award for her contribution to the preservation, development and popularization of the cultural heritage of the Tuvan people. Mengi devoted more than ten years to the revival of traditional storytelling art, collecting Tuvan folklore into electronic databases, making them accessible to everyone.
Cellist Alexander Ramm was recognized for his contribution to the development of Russian musical art and educational activities. Alexander has been performing since he was nine years old, during which time he managed to become a winner of Russian and international competitions.
Finally, the artist Alexey Kryukov: he worked on the painting of churches and created a series of paintings about the Donbass – he was awarded for his contribution to the preservation and development of the traditions of the Russian realistic art school. MK talked with Ilya Glazunov, a graduate of the Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture.
— Alexey, congratulations! Why do you think they received the award?
– In total. But, probably, more for the Donetsk and Lugansk topics.
—Did you paint there from life?
— Yes, my first creative trip took place in 2015. I was immediately inspired by this idea because I had relatives who lived there. I spent a year looking for an opportunity to get there, and finally got lucky. He ended up in Debaltsevo, living with the militia. These were all ideological people, mostly local people. I was looking for images. He made studies, sketches, and sketched impressions. Already in Moscow, in the workshop, he turned it into large canvases.
— You also paint temples. Which ones did you work in?
— Painted five temples. I worked in an artel of artists – it was a collective work. He took part in the painting of the Church of the Armed Forces in Kubinka based on the sketches of Vasily Nesterenko. The canvas is called “The Resurrection of Christ” – 4 by 7 meters. For two and a half years I worked in the Arkhangelsk region in the cathedral, and there are a thousand square meters, it’s like the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. We painted the dome, the drum, the sails there, and created wall compositions. It turned out to be a very large-scale project.
— How many works are in the Donbass cycle?
— More than 30 paintings, including natural ones. I came to the battalion to see Prilepin – there he also drew from life. Zahara wrote. One of his printed portraits is in the Museum of Contemporary History of Russia, and a painting was given to him.
Three more talented Russians won prizes in the field of literature and art for works for children and youth. These are Nikolai Didenko, President of the White Steamship Foundation for Supporting Creatively Gifted Children and Youth (for creating a charity festival for children), Konstantin Kirillov, Director of the Ryazan State Regional Puppet Theater (for his contribution to the development of domestic theatrical art), and Marina Leonova, acting Rector of the Moscow State Academy of Choreography (for his contribution to the preservation and development of the traditions of domestic choreographic education).
We also asked Konstantin Kirillov several questions before the ceremony.
— Thanks to what projects has your theater managed to attract attention to itself at such a level?
— In fact, we received the award for more than one project. I think this is an assessment of all the activities of the Ryazan Puppet Theater in totality. We tour a lot, take part in festivals and hold our own – the oldest and largest international festival of puppet theaters in the post-Soviet space “Ryazan Brides”. We also organized an international laboratory school for young puppeteers, “One Moon for All.” Puppeteers come to us from five continents: from the USA, Japan, England, Iran, Australia, South Africa, neighbors from states that were once part of the USSR, and colleagues from regions that have returned to Russia – the DPR and LPR. By the way, we maintain friendship with the Donetsk and Lugansk puppet theaters – they have been on tour with us several times. It must also be said that the Ryazan Puppet Theater was one of the first to come to Crimea in June 2014. Naturally, we have many productions for children, but evening performances addressed to adult audiences make up a significant part of the repertoire. This rarely happens to puppeteers.
— Can Ryazan be considered the “capital” of puppet theater art?
— Considering that we are hosting conferences of the Russian branch of the International Union of Puppet Theater Workers UNIMA, and in September 2023 I was elected president of the Russian center UNIMA, then yes.
