Russian President Vladimir Putin, connecting via video link, launched the construction of the Moscow-St. Petersburg high-speed railway (HSR), as well as the seventh power unit of the Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant, which is planned to be commissioned in 2030. The head of state stated that all issues necessary to begin work have been agreed upon.
“Let me emphasize: these two objects are very important for the economy, industry, for building up our infrastructural, technological, energy potential, for the development of regions and improving the quality of life of people. I would especially emphasize that during construction, first of all, domestic developments and equipment should be used,”— said the president.
Vladimir Putin noted that Russia has “the best railways,” but the construction of the high-speed railway will increase the speed of movement of freight trains. The Sinara group will produce high-speed trains for the line, and Transmashholding will provide them with components, said the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov at a meeting with the president.
The railway line will pass through the territory of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Leningrad, Novgorod, Tver and Moscow regions. It is planned to be completed by 2027. A prototype of the train is planned to be presented in 2026, and almost 30 trains will be produced by 2028. The cost of construction of the main section of St. Petersburg-Zelenograd was estimated by the Ministry of Transport at 1.7 billion rubles. Russian Railways plans to spend another 200 billion rubles to connect the line with Moscow.
