Viktor Sukhorukov wrote poems in memory of Tuminas

The day of Rimas Tuminas’s funeral has been announced. On March 20, his ashes will arrive in Lithuania, where, according to his will, they will be buried on a farm. People continue to bring flowers to his photographic portraits on the facade of the Vakhtangov Theater in Moscow. The artists he worked with remember him.
Viktor Sukhorukov also worked with an outstanding theater director and played the role of Avner Rosenthal in the play “Smile on Us, Lord.” I started rehearsing for War and Peace, the Master’s last performance, but… the work didn’t happen. And a few months after the premiere he left the Vakhtangov Theater. He responded with a quatrain to the death of Rimas Tuminas, with whom he maintained the best relations. The poem was written immediately after the news of the director’s death in Italy arrived, when his cremation and burial place had not yet been announced.

And with my eyes closed,
In the wooden darkness
From painful torment
You returned to Lithuania.
Let us remind you that Rimas Tuminas died on March 6 in Italy, in a clinic. For about 15 years he headed one of the most popular Russian theaters – named after Evgeniy Vakhtangov, where he produced a dozen wonderful performances, staged mainly based on Russian classics, awarded with all kinds of awards.
