“Victory” will remove the clarification of the dimensions of the handbag after the decision of the Supreme Court

Pobeda Airlines (group “Aeroflot”) will refuse to specify the dimensions of a handbag and briefcase, however, for passengers, the rules for carrying hand luggage will not change. This was reported in the press service of the air carrier.

“In accordance with court decisions, Pobeda will exclude the indication of the dimensions of a handbag and briefcase in the description of the method of carrying hand luggage established on the basis of the Federal Aviation Rules (FAR-82), thus fulfilling the instructions of Rostransnadzor,” the message says.

The airline’s customers will have two ways to measure the dimensions of hand luggage: a calibrator, according to which the bag must comply with the 36x30x27 cm norms, and the FAP norms.

The press service explained that the general approach to baggage and hand luggage does not change, the wording will also be clarified on the website. It is emphasized that the decision to remove the allowable dimensions of a handbag and briefcase from the rules does not mean that a passenger can carry bulky items in the cabin.

Pobeda noted that it had previously repeatedly pointed out inconsistencies in certain provisions of FAR-82 regarding the transportation of a number of items in excess of the free carry-on baggage allowance. The company will continue to insist on clarifying these norms, the press service emphasized.

According to FAP-82, a passenger has the right to carry a handbag and a briefcase, as well as a number of other things, in the cabin free of charge. At the same time, the determination by the carrier of weight and dimensions is indicated only for a backpack, the size of a handbag and briefcase is not specified. At the same time, the airline has the right to set the weight limit for hand luggage. According to the rules, it cannot be less than 5 kg.

January 13 Supreme Court of Russia came to the conclusion that the restrictions on the dimensions of hand luggage, which were established by Pobeda Airlines, violate the rights of passengers and legal requirements. In particular, the airline limits the dimensions of a handbag and a briefcase, which is contrary to the law, the court added.
