Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Boris Chernyshov (LDPR) proposed to develop and implement a sign of an unreliable operator for companies that have leaked personal data of customers. He sent his initiative to the head of the Ministry of Digital Development Maksut Shadayev, TASS reports.

Mr. Chernyshov is convinced that this sign will help the Russians in choosing a particular company. The initiative, in his opinion, will raise the awareness of minors and the elderly, as well as force personal data operators to pay more attention to their protection.

“I ask you to consider the possibility of developing and implementing a special graphic sign “unreliable operator of personal data”, as well as marking companies that have leaked personal data of customers with such a graphic symbol,” the document says.

From September 1, 2022, amendments to the law “On Personal Data” are in force. According to the adopted amendments, the operator who leaked personal data is obliged to inform Roskomnadzor about it within 24 hours. Within 72 hours, it is necessary to provide the department with the results of the company’s internal investigation, the results of which identify the causes of the leak.

As Kommersant learned, Roskomnadzor wants to introduce a requirement for companies to obtain a license to process such data in the upcoming bill on turnover fines for leaks of personal data. Licensing should be done by the certification center of the regulator. Currently, data operators only have to notify the agency of the start of such activities.
