The 244-meter Guanyin tanker, en route from Russia to China, broke down in the Bosphorus. Because of this, shipping in both directions was stopped in the strait, TASS reports. According to Tribeca Shipping, the tanker sails under the flag of Liberia.
According to the Turkish Coast Guard, the breakdown occurred in the area of the Turkeli maritime site (at the entrance to the Bosphorus from the Black Sea). The ship’s engine failed. Two tugboats and a Coast Guard pilot have been dispatched to the area.
The Turkish Dardanelles is also closed for the second day in a row to ship traffic from both sides. A highway leading to the province of Canakkale in northwestern Turkey, where wildfires continue, has also been closed.
