Alexei Venediktov, former editor-in-chief of the Ekho Moskvy radio station (recognized as a foreign agent), said that representatives of Gazprom-Media at a meeting of the board of directors voted against the extension of the rights to the Radio Ekho Moskvy and Ekho Moskvy trademarks.

“The board of directors of Ekho Moskvy was held, at which the issue of extending the rights of Ekho to the trademark Radio Ekho Moskvy and Ekho Moskvy was decided. Representatives of Gazprom-Media voted against the extension. So, we are dealing with collusion, not with a mistake. They voluntarily give up millions of dollars (in dollars) of property,” wrote Mr. Venediktov on Telegram.

In early August, the Rossiya Segodnya MIA media group, headed by media managers Margarita Simonyan and Dmitry Kiselev, filed applications for registration of the Ekho Moskvy brand. The first application is for the registration of the name “Echo of Moscow”, the second – for the registration of the logo. Alexey Venediktov stated that, according to the law, registration could not be carried out, since the Ekho Moskvy brand belongs to ZAO Ekho Moskvy, where minority shareholders control 33.5%.

“Echo of Moscow” turned off off air March 1, 2022. The Prosecutor General’s Office demanded to block the radio station’s website. The agency claimed that the site contained information containing “knowingly false information” about military operations in Ukraine.

Currently, the radio station Sputnik is broadcasting on the Echo of Moscow frequency, the editor-in-chief of which is Margarita Simonyan. In October, Russia blocked the Echo website, which was created by journalists from a closed radio station.
