The use of new energy saving technologies will allow Russia in the long term to reduce the energy intensity and electricity intensity of GDP by 7.4% and 13% compared to 2022, respectively. This is stated in the presentation of the Institute of Vnesheconombank, which was presented on April 25, 2023 by the Deputy Chairman of VEB.RF, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Institute Andrey Klepach at the National Oil and Gas Forum. In Klepach’s presentation, a graph was presented with a forecast of the dynamics of energy intensity until 2050.
The energy intensity of GDP reflects the level of energy efficiency of national economies. The lower this indicator, the more economically the country spends energy resources. In 2008, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree according to which the energy intensity of the country’s GDP by 2020 was to be reduced by 40% compared to the level of 2007. In fact, over 10 years, the indicator decreased by only 9%, according to a report by the Ministry of Economic Development, published in 2020
