Vape pioneer Juul compensates 34 US states

The clouds are gathering over Juul Labs, the vape specialist. The company whose electronic cigarettes are threatened with an outright ban by the federal authorities, will pay 438.5 million dollars to 34 American states.

For two years now, these jurisdictions, under the authority of elected Democrats and Republicans, have been associated in an investigation into the marketing of products with a high nicotine content offered by Juul Labs to vapers. The agreement announced by Connecticut Attorney General William Tong does not end hundreds of other ongoing lawsuits, including nine brought by other US states.

Threat of ban

Juul Labs is accused of having deliberately made millions of adolescents and adults addicted to nicotine, with fruity flavors, less aggressive vapor and ad hoc chemical composition. Knowing that since 1992, Congress has required American states to prohibit the distribution of tobacco to minors.
