According to the results of the first quarter, imports of fertilizers from Russia to the United States reached $596 million, which is 127.4% more than in the same period a year earlier ($262 million), according to a Roscongress study.

According to him, the United States is among the top three exporters of Russian fertilizers, behind India and Brazil. The volumes of purchases increased in all three countries. Deliveries to India increased the most, reaching almost $708 million. In the first quarter of 2021, fertilizers worth $78 million were shipped to this country.

At the same time, Russia’s share in the European market has significantly decreased in recent years, and its place is occupied by suppliers from Algeria, Egypt, Trinidad and Tobago, and the USA. “The country is expected to retain its leading position in Latin American markets and in India, which accounts for 15% of global fertilizer consumption and 80% in the South Asian region,” the study says (quoted by RIA Novosti).

Russian fertilizer producers increased their output by 3% over the seven months, partly due to growing demand in the domestic market. Since September 1, chemical companies are threatened with an increase in export duties, from which producers of phosphate and complex fertilizers will especially suffer, which may increase competition in the domestic market. World prices for fertilizers in the first half of the year were declining against the backdrop of falling gas prices.
