The US Occupational Safety and Health Administration fined the Mars Wrigley factory in Pennsylvania $14,500 because two workers fell into a vat of chocolate in June 2022. The TV channel reported sky news.
The workers were factory contractors and worked part-time. According to the regulator, they did not receive safety training before they began cleaning the vats.
More than two dozen rescuers took part in the rescue operation. They had to cut a hole in the bottom of the batch tank to mix the ingredients for the chocolate. The workers were hospitalized, one of them had to be transported by helicopter.
Mars and Wrigley merged in 2008. Their factories produce M&Ms, Snickers, Galaxy, Twix and other confectionery products.
