Movie producer Walter Mirisch dies at 101 reported American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Mr. Mirish, in particular, produced the film Only Girls in Jazz (1959) with Marilyn Monroe. From 1973-1977 he was president of the film academy.
“Walter was a true visionary both as a producer and as an industry leader. He had a strong influence on the film community and the academy, being our president and director of the academy for many years. His passion for filmmaking and the academy has never wavered and he has remained a dear friend and advisor to us,” Academy CEO and President Bill Kramer and Janet Young said in a statement.
In 1957, Walter Mirisch, along with brothers Harold and Marvin, formed the Mirisch Corporation. She released 68 films, of which three won the Oscar for Best Picture: The Apartment (1960), West Side Story (1961), Midnight Heat (1967). She also produced films such as The Magnificent Seven (1960), The Pink Panther (1963), The Thomas Crown Case (1968), Scorpion (1973), Same Time Next Year ( 1978), The Magnificent Seven (2016).
