The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has imposed a ban on the import and sale of telecommunications equipment manufactured by Huawei, ZTE and several other Chinese companies. According to press release departments, the equipment poses an “unacceptable risk” to national security.
The black list includes equipment and services from Huawei Technologies, ZTE Corporation, Hytera Communications, Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology and Dahua Technology, “as well as their subsidiaries and affiliates.” “The FCC is committed to protecting national security by ensuring that unreliable equipment is not allowed to be used within our borders…These rules are an important part of protecting the American people from telecommunications-related national security threats,” Commission Chair Jessica Rosenworsel said.
Huawei has been under US sanctions since 2018, and all US agencies have been banned from using the company’s equipment. According to CNN, the FBI thinksthat Huawei equipment is capable of disrupting US access to a nuclear arsenal. In October 2022, the US Attorney General also accused two Chinese intelligence officers in an attempt to steal data in the Huawei case.
