General Director of the Bolshoi Theater Vladimir Urin said that problems with purchasing tickets for the ballet “The Nutcracker” on the theater’s website were observed only at the beginning of sales, when the number of requests exceeded 75 thousand per minute. The rest of the time, he said, the ticket sales system on the site worked without failures.
The official response from Vladimir Urin was published by the head of the State Duma Committee on Culture Elena Yampolskaya in Telegram channel. On November 7, she sent an appeal in connection with questions from citizens due to failures in sales of “The Nutcracker.” Ms. Yampolskaya also clarified whether it is planned to change the rules of sale and increase the number of displays.
In his response, Vladimir Urin noted that “The Nutcracker” is the most frequently performed performance in the theater’s classical repertoire, with 23 performances planned this season. He explained the rules for ticket sales, which involve some restrictions, as a fight “against the uncontrolled buying of tickets by resellers.”
Pre-sale of tickets at the theater box office for performances on December 23-29 started on November 4, and on the website – from November 5. On the night of November 4, hundreds of people lined up to receive wristbands that secure a place in line at the theater box office.
