Ural Airlines intends to return the confiscated permits for international flights

Ural Airlines has submitted applications for the return of permission to fly to more than 20 international destinations. This follows from the materials of the interdepartmental commission on admission to international transportation, which leads “Vedomosti”.

At the end of 2023, part of the airline’s clearance on international routes was withdrawn due to a lack of fleet cleared of dual registration. This was due to the fact that after the sanctions imposed after the start of the Russian special operation in 2022, the airline’s aircraft were also included in the Russian register.

Double registration of aircraft allows them to be sent on domestic flights, but prevents them from operating on most international routes. Now Ural Airlines wants to return those slots that, after the withdrawal of clearances, were temporarily transferred to other airlines.

A representative of Ural Airlines confirmed the filing of the application to Vedomosti and clarified that the airline plans to begin flights to the requested destinations from March 2024, and then “as permits are issued.” We are talking, among other things, about flights from the Moscow region Zhukovsky and Sochi airports to Istanbul (some flights are now operated by Red Wings and Rossiya) and from St. Petersburg to Delhi (temporarily flights to Delhi from Novosibirsk are operated by S7), as well as cities in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

Last February, foreign companies began recall planes from Russia. The Federal Air Transport Agency then recommended that carriers with leased aircraft in their fleet not fly abroad. In March, Russian authorities accepted a law allowing such airliners to obtain a second registration.
