Uniqlo may sell Russian business – Kommersant

Japanese clothing retailer Uniqlo may completely leave the Russian market, said Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Viktor Evtukhov “Izvestia” on the sidelines of the Russian-Chinese Business Forum in Shanghai. According to him, the company may leave the market, as McDonald’s did.
“I think they can offer potential buyers their business model, similar to how McDonald’s did earlier,” said Mr. Evtukhov. “A Japanese retailer will similarly be able to offer to buy leases, ‘busy retail spaces’ with good customer traffic, and equipment,” he suggested.
According to Viktor Evtukhov, the Uniqlo retailer has decided to leave the Russian market, but has not yet submitted an application to the legal commission. Thus, the network has no buyer yet.
Earlier sources of “Kommersant” in Gloria Jeans reportedthat in the coming months, the retailer’s stores will open in several places previously occupied by Uniqlo, including the Afimall shopping center. Japanese retailer operator Fast Retailing announced the closure of stores on March 10, 2022.
