UNESCO wants to expand the list of World Intangible Cultural Heritage. The organization has recommended the inclusion of 41 traditional dances from the furyu-odori group in 24 prefectures in Japan, the Kyodo news agency reported.
Furyu-odori is the name of a group of folk dances that are performed during religious holidays. The dancers are usually dressed in expensive and bright outfits, and the dances themselves are quite moving. Some of the most famous are the gujo-odori in Gifu prefecture and the nishimonai-no-bon-odori in Akita prefecture.
The final decision on the inclusion of dances in the list can be made at a meeting of the UNESCO commission, which will be held from November 28 to December 3 in Morocco. Now there are 22 positions from Japan in the list of world intangible cultural heritage, including kabuki theater and Japanese cuisine, RIA Novosti reports.
In July to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List made Ukrainian borsch. The Minister of Culture and Information Policy of the country Oleksandr Tkachenko said that Ukrainian borscht is “a national dish that has no competitors”.
