Ukrtransgaz is certified as a gas storage operator according to European rules

A certification procedure has been launched for Ukrtransgaz (a subsidiary of Naftogaz) as a gas storage operator under European Union (EU) regulations. This was announced by the chairman of the board of Naftogaz Alexei Chernyshov.
“A corresponding request was sent to the National Commission for Energy and Utilities (the national commission that carries out state regulation in the fields of energy and utilities.— ”b”). Mr. Chernyshov added that passing the certification procedure in accordance with European rules will allow storing strategic fuel reserves of the EU countries in Ukrainian gas storage facilities. How long the certification process may take is not specified.
In December 2022, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law on the certification of Ukrtransgaz as a European gas storage operator. NEURC is authorized to certify the operator according to EU regulations and monitor the company’s compliance with certification requirements. In the third quarter of last year, the EU spent for the purchase of gas a record €101 billion, while deliveries through Ukraine decreased by 63%.
