Ukrainian ship blocked traffic in the Bosphorus Strait

A 173-metre-long vessel that left Ukraine for Istanbul ran aground in the Bosphorus Strait and is now closed to traffic, the Turkish Coast Guard said. The cause was a steering failure.
“Tugs KURTARMA-5, KURTARMA-6, KURTARMA-9, KURTARMA-12, NAZIM TUR and boats KEGM-3, KEGM-5 were sent to the scene of the incident to the 173-meter cargo ship LADY ZEHMA, which ran aground due to rudder failure while sailing from Ukraine to Istanbul. Vessel traffic in the Istanbul (Bosphorus) Strait has been suspended,” the report said (cit. according to RIA Novosti).
Vessels from blocked Ukrainian ports also pass through the Bosphorus, delivering food in accordance with the “food” deal concluded by Turkey and the UN separately with Russia and Ukraine on July 22. On July 27, the Joint Coordinating Center (JCC) also began its work in Istanbul. Within the framework of the agreement on grain, it was also supposed to remove restrictions on the export of Russian food and fertilizers. The UN reported that from August 1 to 29, more than 1.2 million tons of food was taken out of the blocked ports of Ukraine.
The day before, traffic was blocked in the Suez Canal, but navigation was resumed within a few hours. The reason was a 252 m long oil tanker that had run aground.
