Ukraine continues to consume Russian gas – Kommersant

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Ukraine has not given up consuming Russian gas and continues to receive it “in one way or another.” He noted that despite the political situation, Gazprom continues to fulfill its responsibilities to European countries in full.
“Ukraine actually consumes Russian gas, the gas transportation network is designed in such a way that as soon as it enters the country’s territory, it “puffs and spreads,” said Vladimir Putin, answering a question during the final press conference. The President emphasized that “Russia never does anything for political reasons” and has no intention of doing so regarding gas supplies.
Speaking about the export of Russian gas, Vladimir Putin said that relations with all fuel consumers, including from European countries, continue to develop. “The fact that Europe does not receive enough gas is not our problem – we did not close the gas pipelines, we did not blow up the Nord Streams. “Nord Streams were most likely blown up by the Americans,” he added.
The EU Council and the European Parliament reached a preliminary agreement on December 8 establishing a new gas regulation aimed at decarbonizing gas and hydrogen. With its adoption, EU countries will be able at the national level to prohibit Russian suppliers from accessing gas transportation infrastructure, including LNG terminals. Restrictions for gas suppliers from the Russian Federation may primarily affect Gazprom and NOVATEK.
