UK approves merger of Broadcom and VMware – Kommersant

Today, 21 August, the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) approved merger of IT companies Broadcom and VMware. The regulator said the deal would not “materially reduce competition in the supply of server hardware components in the UK”. The CMA gave its preliminary approval back in July, but has since carried out further review of the merger.
Broadcom and VMware Deal about the merger in May, the transaction amounted to $ 69 billion. At that time, it was reported that the companies needed to obtain regulatory approval in order to complete the transaction, which could cause some difficulties, given Broadcom’s activity in terms of takeovers of competitors.
So, in 2018, the US authorities blocked Broadcom’s purchase of its competitor in the semiconductor market, Qualcomm. In July, the European Commission approved the merger between Broadcom and VMware. The US regulator has not commented on the deal yet.
