The UK Foreign Office has announced that London has stopped importing Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) from 1 January. The department emphasized that gas supplies allow Russia to finance a special operation in Ukraine.
“The UK has stopped all imports of Russian liquefied natural gas,” the UK Foreign Office said on Twitter.
On October 28, the British Foreign Office announced plans to stop LNG supplies from Russia. The decision was made in order to reduce dependence on Russian fuel. According to research company ICIS As of December, in 2022, the EU and the UK purchased almost 21% more Russian LNG than in 2021.
According to the National Statistical services Great Britain, in 2022 the United States became the largest source of LNG supplies to London. In 2023, it is planned to replace Russian LNG with supplies from Qatar and Azerbaijan.
