The United Engine Corporation (UEC) has begun flight tests of the PD-8 engine designed for the SSJ New passenger airliner, the Rostec press service reports.
The report says that the engine is being tested as part of the Il-76LL flying laboratory, owned by the Gromov Research Institute UAC.
“The main operational data are recorded – rotational speed, pressure, temperature, as well as additional parameters necessary to confirm the design decisions made and ensure the safety of the operation of the power plant,” the press service noted.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov in an interview with Vedomosti declaredthat the replacement of the SaM146 engines on the current generation of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 regional aircraft with Russian PD-8s is not yet envisaged. These aircraft have been in operation since 2011, and now Russian carriers have about 150 SSJ100s.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, remotorization requires significant financial costs, while economic feasibility for operators and lessors remains the focus of attention. He also expressed hope that technical solutions would be found to extend the life of the existing fleet of such aircraft with SaM146 engines.
