The largest bank in Uzbekistan, Xalq banki (People’s Bank) and Ipoteka Bank, have suspended work with the Unistream payment system. The national postal operator of Kazakhstan, Kazpost, also temporarily stopped accepting and sending money to Unistream. A representative of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan clarified to TASS that Halyk Bank and Ipoteka Bank suspended work with Unistream for technical reasons. The regulator expects that other banks in Uzbekistan will make a decision on this issue in the near future.
The suspension of operations with funds through Unistream was reported to the agency and in the call center of Kazpost. They clarified that the service of Unistream transfers was suspended from July 20 due to sanctions. TASS notes that the call center operator found it difficult to answer a clarifying question about the possible dates for the resumption of operations.
July 20 Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Treasury (OFAC) reported on the inclusion in the sanctions list of 95 legal entities. Among them, in addition to Unistream Bank, were Tinkoff Bank, Solidarity Bank, Loko Bank and St. Petersburg Social Commercial Bank.
