Twitter refuses to fight misinformation about COVID-19

Twitter has abandoned a policy to combat the spread of misinformation about the coronavirus and vaccinations. The company did not announce this separately, however, in the relevant section of the platform rules, notificationthat “As of November 23, 2022, Twitter no longer has a policy to combat misinformation about COVID-19.”

Twitter introduced rules to combat disinformation in 2020. Between January 2020 and September 2022, more than 11 thousand accounts were blocked for their violation and more than 100 thousand tweets were deleted, writes CNN. Last week, social media CEO Elon Musk promised restore some of the profiles blocked under the previous management of the company, if the profile owners did not violate the law and did not send spam. It is likely that some of the recoveries will come from accounts that have been suspended for violating the COVID-19 policy.

Elon Musk bought Twitter at the end of October for $44 billion. After that, the company fired half of the employees, but the businessman intends expand staff. He also promised to relax moderation rules and revise user verification rules.
