According to American mass media, many Twitter users have lost their special verification marks (the so-called blue checkmarks). These signs used to be, as a rule, with famous personalities – politicians, artists, musicians, as well as with the media, companies and organizations, so that users understand that the account really belongs to this person or company. Now the checkboxes will remain only for those who have signed up for a paid Twitter Blue subscription. It costs $8 per month.
At first, the deadline for canceling the checkboxes was called April 1, then the deadline was moved to April 20. Yesterday, special verification marks disappeared from the Twitter accounts of many famous users – Oprah Winfrey, Justin Bieber, Kim Kardashian, Bill Gates and others.
New owner Elon Musk announced the abolition of these signs at the end of last year, calling such a system obsolete. “In a few months, we will remove all obsolete blue checkmarks. The way they were issued was corrupt and pointless,” Musk tweeted in December.
