Tsereteli will present a sculpture of Peter I to the Museum of the World Ocean

The sculpture of Zurab Tsereteli depicts a running little Petrush, dressed in a military naval uniform, in boots with spurs and in a triangular hat.

A positive response from the President of the Russian Academy of Arts completed the negotiations between the parties on donating the sculpture to the museum and installing a new attraction on the territory of the Friedrichsburg Gate of the Museum of the World Ocean.

“We are very grateful to Zurab Konstantinovich! This is a great gift to the museum, and Kaliningrad, and the entire Kaliningrad region! – said Svetlana Sivkova, general director of the Museum of the World Ocean. — We marked the beginning of 2022 with the creation of the Petrovsky Center, this is our contribution to the preservation of the legacy of Peter I. The Friedrichsburg Gate became the base of the project, where young Peter once studied in the fortress. Today, there is an exposition on the history of shipbuilding, the Cabinet of Peter I is open, children come to the School of Navigational Sciences and the Young Sailor Club, learn the basics of maritime professions. The sculptural composition will recreate the image of young Peter, who is inspired by the endless thirst for knowledge, seeks to see, hear, learn, absorb as much as possible. We are sure that here the composition will reveal all the deep meanings laid down by the author and bring great joy to people.”

The author of the sculpture, President of the Russian Academy of Arts, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation Zurab Tsereteli, in turn, noted the importance of the museum’s activities.

“I fully share the museum’s desire to preserve and increase the memory of the deeds of Peter I, which is especially important in the year of celebration of the 350th anniversary of his birth. We are glad that a new attraction will appear in the Kaliningrad region, which will serve to strengthen historical memory, help preserve the common cultural space of Russia and the Kaliningrad region as part of it, and help educate the younger generation,” he said.

The grand opening of the sculptural composition is scheduled for August 27, the day of the traditional Museum Marine Festival “Water Assembly”, which this year is also dedicated to the 350th anniversary of Peter the Great.
