‘Troy’ and Das Boot director Wolfgang Petersen dies

The famous German film director, screenwriter and producer Wolfgang Peterson, who became famous for the film Das Boot (“Submarine”), has died in the United States at the age of 81.
How informs Deadline, the director died at his residence in Brentwood from pancreatic cancer. Next to him was his 50-year-old wife Marie Antoinette.
Peterson started out as an assistant director at the Young Theatre, Hamburg. He then graduated from the Film and Television Academy in West Berlin.
In 1981, real success came to him after the release of the film Das Boot about the crew of a submarine.
Then came his children’s fantasy film “The Neverending Story”, which was also shown in the USSR.
Among other famous films of the director are the fantastic film “My Enemy”, the disaster film “The Perfect Storm” and the historical drama “Troy”.
