“Trinity” in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior will be guarded by the National Guard

Despite the protests of the museum community, experts and restorers, on June 4 the Trinity will leave the Tretyakov Gallery and will be exhibited in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. True, not for a year, as originally planned, but only two weeks. After the icon will go to the restoration table – back to the museum, for examination, treatment and prophylaxis. It is reported that in the XXS, next to the masterpiece of ancient Russian art, fighters of the National Guard, employees of the security service of the cathedral and specialists from the Tretyakov Gallery will be on duty. The icon will be exhibited in an old showcase, in which she went to the Trinity-Sergius Lavra a year ago, after which her condition worsened. Now they are trying to equip the kiot in haste so that it maintains the necessary temperature and humidity conditions. Liturgy on the occasion of the feast of the Trinity on June 4 with the participation of a fragile monument of ancient Russian art will begin at 10 am.

“The service at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior will be performed by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’. Further, after the end of the festive Liturgy, until June 18, the shrine will be available for the worship of believers. During its stay in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, the ancient image will be under the supervision of the staff of the Tretyakov Gallery with strict control of the temperature and humidity conditions required for the preservation of the monument, ”the website of the Patriarchy reports.

The last statement is doubtful, because a recent study published in the protocol of the Expanded Restoration Council of the State Tretyakov Gallery suggests the opposite. After a trip to the shop last summer, a total of 71 changes were revealed in the icon: some of them appeared immediately, some within a year. We have not yet learned how to make an icon case with a high-quality TVR, for other fragile exhibits they were previously ordered in Italy or Germany, which is now, for obvious reasons, impossible. The one in which the Trinity will go again, according to the experts of the Tretyakov Gallery, does not provide sufficient protection. So let’s hope for a miracle.
