Transneft reported an attempt to shell the Novozybkovo oil refinery (NPS) in the Bryansk region, which is part of the Druzhba oil pipeline, from Ukraine. Now the pipeline is operating normally, the company said. They claim that an attempt to attack the station was made yesterday, January 31.
The official representative of Transneft, Igor Demin, told TASS that the Novozybkovo station is used at peak loads on a one-time basis. The last time the NPS was turned on was last year for a few hours.
“As a result of a shell hit on the territory of the station, there were no victims, the damage is being repaired by the repair team. The Druzhba oil pipeline is operating normally,” Mr. Demin said.
The emergency services specified that the ammunition fell into a field in the Novozybkovsky district of the Bryansk region. “The munitions exploded on Tuesday in an open field near the village of Mamai, they didn’t hit the oil pipeline,” a source told RIA Novosti.
The head of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation Nikolai Shulginov said that there are no problems with the pumping of oil through the Druzhba pipeline.
The route of the Druzhba oil pipeline runs from Almetyevsk to Bryansk and then to the Belarusian Mozyr, after which it branches into two sections: northern (through Belarus, Poland, Germany, Latvia and Lithuania) and southern (through Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Croatia ). Oil transit through Druzhba is periodically suspended due to shelling and power outages in Ukraine.
