Transneft announced a partial shutdown of a section of the Druzhba oil pipeline in Ukraine

A section of the Druzhba oil pipeline located in Ukraine has been partially shut down. The pumping of oil from Belarus in the direction of Ukraine is still ongoing, Transneft spokesman Igor Demin told TASS.
“At the moment, the pumping from the territory of Belarus in the direction of Ukraine is underway. If Ukraine does not restore pumping in the sections in the Novgorod-Volynsky-Brody area, then this pumping will also be stopped in a few hours,” Mr. Demin said.
The representative of “Transneft” said that the pumping to Hungary, according to the plan, was stopped for three days. “Pumping in the direction of the Czech Republic and Slovakia from Budkovce is underway, as there is a park where sufficient volumes are stored for work for several days,” Mr. Demin added.
Formerly Ukrainian operator Ukrtransneft informed “Transneft” about the intention to increase the fee for the transit of Russian oil through the pipeline “Druzhba”. During 2022, Ukraine increased the cost of transporting Russian oil through the pipeline by almost 34%, and from 2023 it is going to raise the rate by another 18%, to €13.6 per 1 ton. Yesterday, November 22, the Belarusian side also asked increase the tariff for oil transit from 2023 by 39%.
Stopping oil transit in the direction of Hungary via the Druzhba pipeline happened 15th of November. On this day, Ukraine was subjected to massive shelling, 15 energy facilities were damaged. November 16, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó informedthat the pumping of oil through the Druzhba pipeline has been resumed.
