Tranio: Russians became the second among foreign buyers of apartments in Thailand

The Russians took second place among foreign citizens in terms of the number of transactions and the volume of investments in real estate in residential complexes in Thailand. The first line of the rating was occupied by the citizens of China. This is stated in a study for 2022 by the international real estate broker Tranio.
According to Tranio materials cited by TASS, over the past year, Russians purchased 813 apartments in condominiums in Thailand, the value of which is estimated at $75.5 million. The Chinese became the leaders among foreigners in terms of the number of transactions and the volume of investments. They bought 5,707 apartments for a total of about $828.3 million.
Property in Thailand is also in demand among buyers from the US, UK, France and Myanmar, the report said. Citizens of Myanmar purchased apartments for $72.8 million, the United States for $68.1 million, and France for $54.5 million.
However, buyers from Russia and China have different preferences in regions of residence. Chinese investors pay attention to apartments in Bangkok and Chiang Mai, Russians and Europeans prefer housing in Phuket and other island resorts, in particular, Koh Samui, Koh Chang and Koh Lanta.
The demand for housing in Thailand, according to Tranio, is also growing in 2023. For the first quarter of this year, demand increased by 57% in annual terms. The average budget of Russian citizens for the purchase of Thai real estate amounted to €155 thousand in the first quarter of 2023, apartments in new buildings and rooms in apart hotels are most in demand.
“Thailand is now popular as a second place of residence, because it is friendly to the Russian Federation – hence the ease of the transaction. Many of our clients discovered this country for themselves after Russia’s relations with Europe became more complicated, and as a result they saw many advantages here,” notes Elena Milishenkova, commercial director of Tranio.
