Toyota Motor announced about changing the leadership of its small car division Daihatsu in connection with the crash testing scandal. The president, chairman of the board of directors and director of Daihatsu lost their posts.
Back in April, Daihatsu admitted falsifying the results of side impact crash tests for 88 thousand cars. Subsequently, an independent commission conducted an investigation and declared serious violations against all 64 models and 3 engines produced by Daihatsu. The audit showed that falsification of crash test results was allowed at Daihatsu in previous years.
Daihatsu faces fines for these violations, and the Ministry of Transport may require the recall of previously sold vehicles. By estimates Nikkei, Daihatsu’s losses due to the crash testing scandal could reach $700 million.
December 20 company announced about the suspension of deliveries of all its models produced both in Japan and abroad. And on December 21, employees of the Japanese Ministry of Transport conducted search at Daihatsu headquarters.
Today’s report notes that Toyota yesterday managed to partially resume production and deliveries of cars for which Daihatsu is responsible. We are talking about the Toyota Probox and Mazda Familia models, which are produced at the Daihatsu plant in Kyoto.
