In 2023 Toyota Motor sold in the world, a record 11.2 million cars and thereby retained its leadership in this indicator, leaving the Volkswagen Group in second place. It sold 7.2% more cars than a year earlier. And in general, in nine of the last ten years, the Japanese manufacturer sold more than 10 million cars annually. The only exception was 2020 with its pandemic restrictions.
Sales of cars under the Toyota and Lexus brands also hit a record – 10.3 million cars, which is 7.7% more than a year earlier, and the first annual growth in the last two years.
Despite record sales, last year was dark for the Japanese company scandal with Daihatsu, a member of the Toyota Motor group, due to which the supply of all cars produced by this division was stopped, and then stopped factories and withdrawn licenses for the production of three models. Yesterday the company announced suspension deliveries of ten car models due to engine certification violations. Later it became known that the company suspended operation of six production lines.
