TotalEnergies remains in Russia to ensure energy supplies to Europe

The French oil and gas company TotalEnergies will exit the Russian market gradually and maintain a presence in Russia to provide energy supplies to Europe. This was announced by the head of the company Patrick Pouyanne on the air of the TV channel TF1 info.
“We will gradually withdraw from Russia. We have moved away from all activities that had nothing to do with energy supplies,” Mr. Pouyanne said.
According to him, TotalEnergies kept the contract with the Russian energy company, 70% of whose products were sent to Europe. “Europe needs this Russian gas,” the head of TotalEnergies explained.
He noted that as soon as Europe decides to impose sanctions against Russian gas, the company will terminate this contract. Patrick Pouyanne added that TotalEnergies has suspended all investments in projects in Russia.
“Today we are trying to gradually withdraw from Russia, while ensuring supplies to Europe,” he summed up.
TotalEnergies is the fourth largest oil and gas company in the world after Royal Dutch Shell, British Petroleum and ExxonMobil. It operates in more than 130 countries around the world.
