Times: Russian native becomes biggest UK taxpayer in 2022

First place in the annual tax rating of the British newspaper The Times was occupied by Alexander Gerko, founder of the trading company XTX Markets. For 2022, he paid £487m ($602.8m) in taxes.

Second place in the Times ranking was shared by the co-owners of the betting company Bet365 Denise, John and Peter Coates. Their activities brought the British budget £460 million (about $570 million).

Mr. Gerko was born in Russia and received his PhD in Mathematics from Moscow State University. He is also a graduate of the Russian Economic School (NES). In 2016, he received British citizenship, and in December 2022 he completed the process of renouncing Russian citizenship.
