“Reaching one billion in box office receipts is an important milestone for Russian animation. It is symbolic that the record was achieved in the anniversary year of the franchise about heroes – 20 years,” the press service of the Volga rental company reported.

In the week of January 25–28, 2024, the cartoon “Three Heroes and the Navel of the Earth” entered the top 5 films at the Russian box office, collecting 37.8 million rubles. The leaders at the box office were the films “The Master and Margarita”, “The Musicians of Bremen”, “Slave-2” and “Air”.

The previous record for box office receipts among Russian cartoons belonged to the film “Three Heroes on Distant Shores,” released in 2012—it earned 932 million rubles at the box office.

“Three Bogatyrs” is the largest franchise of full-length animated films in Russia, it tells about the adventures of Alyosha Popovich, Dobrynya Nikitich and Ilya Muromets. The first project in the series was “Alyosha Popovich and Tugarin the Serpent” (2004). Then the animated films “Dobrynya Nikitich and the Serpent Gorynych” (2006) and “Ilya Muromets and the Nightingale the Robber” (2007) were released. In 2024, the franchise, in which the film “Three Heroes and the Navel of the Earth” became the 12th part, will turn 20 years old.
