Wildberries will restore a warehouse that burned down near St. Petersburg. While the plan is “in the early stages of development,” investments are now being assessed, Forbes writes. RBC sources reported that the premises that burned down in Shushary were not insured; the company allegedly planned to do this, but the fire happened earlier. Wildberries, however, responded that the building had insurance, but they could not disclose the details.

How much will it cost the marketplace to restore the warehouse? And what losses will he suffer if the warehouse is not insured? Managing partner of Infoline-Analyst Mikhail Burmistrov calculated the possible damage: “If we are talking about the cost of such a facility, then the investment in its construction is estimated at approximately 30.5 billion rubles. taking into account equipment costs.

Additional costs for things that are not directly related to warehousing may amount to approximately another 5 billion rubles. In addition, the building is definitely not insured, and this can already be chalked up to the loss of the entire investment. Then the second question arises, more complex, about how insurance companies will behave, because, relatively speaking, the insured goods are stored in a warehouse that is not put into operation.

That is, there are certain risks in this regard: insurers can either refuse to pay compensation or, for example, discount these payments in a certain way.

For now we can say that there is a cost of goods: according to my estimates, it is at least 12 billion rubles. And the question is how insurance companies will interpret the situation.”

Wildberries began building a warehouse in the village of Shushary in 2021, its area is more than 100 thousand square meters. m. Then it was called one of the largest in the region, built for the needs of the marketplace. According to preliminary estimates by the All-Russian Union of Insurers, damage from the fire a week ago could exceed 10 billion rubles.

But even if the warehouse was not insured, the company is able to cover the losses on its own, says Cross Insights partner Boris Ovchinnikov:

“Given the current scale of Wildberries’ business, the construction or restoration of another warehouse is not some kind of extraordinary challenge.

The company builds such facilities all the time, and to the noticeable number of new projects is added the restoration of a burnt warehouse, nothing more. In addition, if you look at the fact that the daily turnover on Wildberries is already approaching 10 billion rubles, then, in fact, a little more than a day’s supply of goods was burned in the warehouse, if we exaggerate.

At the same time, we simply do not have fresh figures for Wildberries’ profits for 2023. But, given that their sellers’ payments grew faster than their sales volume, we can assume that profits should have increased noticeably, maybe even multiple.”

On January 18, security forces came to the Wildberries office. According to RBC sources, they checked fire safety systems at all facilities and all necessary documentation. After the emergency, the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case for abuse of power; this article provides for imprisonment for up to four years.
