The volume of Russian tourist flows to Turkey has not reached pre-pandemic levels

Turkey was visited by such a number of Russians for the first time since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic: in the summer of 2022, 2.15 million trips were recorded, and in the previous two years, 1.8 million and 454 thousand Russian citizens arrived in the country, respectively.
At the same time, the current indicators, as the publication notes, have still not reached pre-pandemic levels. Thus, in June-August 2019, 3.16 million people visited the republic.
From January to August 2023, according to the Turkish Ministry, 4.35 million Russians came to Turkey, and last year only 3 million people entered the republic. In general, the share of Russians among those arriving in the republic is more than 13%. This country was also frequently visited by citizens of Germany (4.08 million) and Great Britain (2.65 million).
At the beginning of July at the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) reportedthat Turkey in the summer season of 2023 lost 35–40% of Russian tourists compared to 2019 due to high prices. The average bill for a trip to Turkey in the summer of 2023 has almost doubled compared to pre-Covid 2019. If previously 10 nights cost around 50,000–60,000 rubles. per person on the tour, then in the summer the check increased to 100,000–115,000 rubles. At the same time, tour operators noted an increased demand for expensive hotels and individual transfers. Purchases of extended insurance policies have also increased.
The average bill for trips to Turkey and other countries compared to 2022, according to the travel search and booking service Travelata.ru, also increased. The most expensive travel option in 2023 was a trip to the UAE with an average bill of 212,068 rubles, which is 22% higher than last year. In second place is Turkey, with an average bill of 207,491 rubles and a price jump of 23%.
