Only disciplined and reliable craftsmen will be allowed to work

The Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War on Poklonnaya Hill is expected to undergo major renovations in the near future. Builders will have to renew the roof and tidy up the façade of the main building.

As MK learned, the latest study of the building showed that the roofing of the museum with an area of 1.6 thousand square meters. m has fallen into disrepair today. The previous roof overhaul was carried out in 2004-2005. Serious wind loads and precipitation led to the fact that the roof waterproofing was destroyed in many places, which caused constant leaks. All this, the restorers note, creates a threat to the full operation of the “Feat of the People” exhibition located on the second floor of the building, that is, right under the roof.

Builders will have to dismantle the three-layer roof covering, repair the cement screed and steel parapet around the perimeter, and then make a new covering.

The building’s façade has not been renovated since the museum opened in 1995. Over the past years, its northern part has suffered greatly: under the influence of precipitation, sun and wind, some of the marble and granite facing slabs have collapsed and the sealant has peeled off.

Therefore, the marble and granite slabs will be replaced with new ones, and the sealant will also be restored.

The museum has very serious requirements for those who will carry out major repairs. The contract with a potential contractor states that workers must be neat, well equipped, must not appear on the construction site drunk, and certainly not drink on the job site. It is specifically stipulated that employees are prohibited from using materials and information containing extremist statements, naturalistic scenes or scenes of cruelty, as well as those aimed at inciting hatred. The museum reserves the right to demand that the contractor fire any employee it does not like.

The museum’s overhaul is scheduled to be completed by April 10 next year. The Contractor must ensure that the next major repair will not be required earlier than 5 years after acceptance of the work.
