In 2023, US imports of goods from Russia amounted to $4.57 billion (in 2022 – $14.44 billion), according to data from the US Census Bureau. The main import items were uranium, mineral fertilizers and palladium. I studied the bureau materials RBC.
Imports of enriched uranium to the United States amounted to $1.19 billion – these are record values since 1992; in 2022, imports amounted to $830 million. A total of 701.8 tons of uranium were imported.
Imports of raw palladium amounted to $1.08 billion (in 2022 – $1.35 billion), mineral fertilizers – $1.35 billion (in 2022 – $1.75 billion). In addition, the United States imported $91 million worth of turbojet engines from Russia. Census Bureau materials also show that supplies of ferrous metals in 2023 decreased sixfold, to $201.5 million.
US exports to Russia last year amounted to $597 million compared to $1.66 billion in 2022. The main items are pharmaceutical products ($164 million), instruments and equipment ($158 million). RBC notes that these are mainly medical devices and medical equipment.
At the end of January, the lower house of the US Congress passed a bill aimed at reducing dependence on Russian agricultural products. According to Kommersant, the Russian authorities are concerned about the adopted document and consider it “a harbinger of complications in trade.”
