The Union of Juice Producers predicted a 10% reduction in market volume

The Union of Juice, Water and Drink Producers (Soyuznapitki) expects the volume of the juice and bottled water market to decline by at least 10% compared to 2021, said Union President Maxim Novikov, transmits TASS.

According to him, the volume of production cuts will depend on the speed of producers’ adaptation to new realities, in which it is not always possible to bring raw materials and ingredients. The experience of previous crises has shown that the fall can be from 10%.

Novikov recalled that in total in Russia in 2021, 8.5 billion liters of packaged water, 7 billion of soft drinks, 2.5 billion of juices and about 300 million liters of vegetable drinks were produced. “For this year, we already see a lag in production rates compared to the past. This is due to the classic decrease in consumer activity due to a decrease in income,” said the head of Soyuznapitki.

“The good news is that the water market is recovering very quickly, that is, we can reach double-digit growth rates of 10-15%,” Novikov said. However, the juice market is less flexible and usually takes longer to recover. According to him, the most serious crisis, including for beverage producers, was in 2008, from the consequences of which the industry has not yet recovered. At that time, juice consumption halved and still has not recovered, while the volume of packaged water production increased.

In June, Soyuznapitki reported that as a result of trade restrictions and rising costs, beverage producers were having difficulty importing raw materials. Customs began to block the supply of fruit and berry puree, believing that the products had not been processed and were subject to food sanctions from 2014.
