The Thai government approved the decision to introduce a tourist tax in the amount of 150 (about $ 4) to 300 baht ($ 9) from June 1, 2023, reports Bangkok Post. The money will not be collected from foreigners who have a work permit, as well as from children under two years of age and transit passengers.
150 baht will be charged from foreigners who arrived in the country by land and water transport, and 300 baht from those who flew to Thailand by plane, said the Minister of Tourism and Sports of the country, Pipat Ratchakitprakan. According to him, the tourist tax is lower for those arriving by land and water, because such foreigners are more likely to leave Thailand after a few days.
Thailand originally planned to introduce the levy in January 2022, but the decision has been repeatedly delayed. 7 February Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-Ocha predictedthat in 2023 the flow of tourists could reach 30 million people.
