Anton Gorelkin, deputy head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications, criticized the idea of state funding for the Rostelecom project for the Aurora mobile operating system. In his opinion, the government can provide support to all market participants. The day before, Kommersant wrote that the Ministry of Finance was not ready to allocate the 480 billion rubles necessary for the implementation of the project.
“All successful operating systems that exist today were developed without the participation of states. They conquered the market precisely because commercial companies were vitally interested in it. Whether an alternative project will take off if pumped with budget money is a big question, I strongly doubt it, ”Anton Gorelkin wrote in his Telegram channel.
Mr. Gorelkin added that he did not understand why Rostelecom should receive state support for the development of Aurora. In his opinion, the government should finance market participants equally. “At the same time, companies must provide most of the funding themselves so that the best product is determined as a result of healthy competition,” he added.
Aurora is a Russian mobile operating system developed by Rostelecom. Company evaluates the cost of the project is 480 billion rubles. and asks for government funding. According to Kommersant’s information, the Ministry of Digital Development approved the project, but the Ministry of Finance refused to allocate budgetary funds for it.
